EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Virus problems - how they affect the publisher
So I started getting these "return receipts" for messages I didn't send. A quick check showed the original message contained the Blaster virus, or some such varient. Given I was working on a Mac, take precautions etc, etc, etc I was rather surprised. I was also rather concerned that the message appeared to have come from me when clearly it didn't. It was only when I did a bit of digging that I discovered the virus has its own mail client (in effect) that infects the user's computer, grabs an eMail address and then fires out message as if from that address. So here's the rub.... This unadvertised problem could be causing us problems. For a start we don't know who is infected, but we also appear to send messages we didn't. There is a risk that our advertisers and subscribers are going to hear from "us" and blame "us" for the transmission of these viruses. And as a result our reputation may suffer. The question I think is how are we going to deal with this situation? Thoughts anyone? Ross ;-)) -- Ross Hall, G A R O L Ltd.
