Hmm... this change made the list more or less "un-usable". (very hard to 
keep up on who wrote what)

Too bad! :-/

(is the list's subscription phase double-opt in btw? If so; big bear and 
sobig-f won't do much difference)

Why not give these individuals a warning, and if this doesn't bite - throw 
em out.

(an easy way to get rid of these problems with whitelists etc, is to have a 
special email-address (separate account) for epub and / or any other 
email-list)

Show some respect, and do the above - rather than what Janet speaks about.
