AOL owns one of the biggest backbones there is, so the above is true - 
along with other ISPs out there. Though one have to look at it from a 
business point, do you want to reach these x-millions of users or not.

It's our choice as a service provider in our turn.

Does AOL apply a traffic-limit, similar as Yahoo! and Hotmail.com do?!

You can set up your mailserver in a way to not get these 5MB in return, or 
in any case you can use procmail to filter them in order to save time / 
space / bandwidth.

That depends really, most problems can be worked around.

One always have to consider the pros and the cons. When it comes to AOL one 
is forced to eat up one's own hat as it's a HUGE ISP, we can't escape from 
that fact.
