Got an Ezine Marketing |
EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Re: QUERY: Posting two issues of one ezine?
Hi Janet I actually do my ezine this way. I send out the text version of the newsletter then wait, usually a day or so then send out a plain message with a link stating where they can read the current issue online. Of course, this is a lot more work for me as I now have to make two versions of my ezine text and HTML but I do feel this gives me a better chance of slipping past the filters. You are correct though it's effectiveness seems to be diminishing as I think "whitelisting" is the way to go. I do ask my subscribers to whitelist our ezines email address. I've even gone so far as to send out separate mailings asking them to do so. With the new AOL 9.0 if a subscriber does not know how to turn off the default filtering and you are not on their "friend/buddy" list they won't even get your ezine, let alone know you sent it. I do put a tracking link on the second mailing where they can go read it online and generally only about 2.5% of my readers are using it. So, they either are getting it the first time or they aren't reading my second message and opening the HTML version as much as I'd like. Some people will unsubscribe as they might get annoyed with the second notification. So be it. Those who are loyal readers, don't mind the second mailing and are usually glad to see a reminder in case they missed it. The way I look at it is if someone really wants to get my ezine and they like the content, they'll whitelist me or check their garbage before hitting the delete key on what their filters are catching. I use filters myself but never never let it delete anything until I glance through it to see what it has decided is junk. I want to make that decision for myself. Does this take more of my time? Sure, but I'd hate to lose a precious ezine that I might really love just because a piece of software decided it was junk and discarded it. Here's a question I would like to throw out to the epub audience, and, I hope, flush some of you lurkers out from the underbrush: I see more email publishers sending their newsletters twice: in one send, they send the whole issue. In a follow-up send, either the same day or the day after, they send a short email with a link to the newsletter at their sites and a note that recipients should go to the site if they didn't get the newsletter. I know why people do that; in case a content filter stops a newsletter because of something in the body copy, the follow-up email should have few potentially objectionable terms in it. If you do that, do you get any measurable increase in response, readership, opens, etc.? Me, I'm not convinced of it, because I think the tide in filtering is moving to address verification and IP/ISP/domain-name blocking rather than content filters. That's what we see, anyway. What do you folks think? Do you have any experience with this? Did you try it and then discard it? Are you thinking about it? Inquiring minds want to know.
