1. You'll find out who your readers (or 'responders') are. By asking
them to perform a particular action, or cease to continue receiving
your ezine, you're putting it all on the line. It's a risk, sure. But one
worth taking. Because the folks you're losing are the ones you WANT
to lose!

It's a real eye opener. We combined multiple ezines into one and felt to keep in good practice we needed to have people re-opt into the new Ezine and we haven't regained half of what we had. When we did the transition we also implemented a registration system which has increased the quality of the feedback we get. Overall it was a positive thing to do but I wouldn't want to have to re-opt everyone in again so soon. We still get, "what happened to..." emails and it's almost been a year.
