[epub] Re: Privacy Language

When he says "this information remains only within my company," he covers
his bases because if the company is sold, the email addresses go to the new
owner.

What do you think?

It boils down to 'risk reversal' and how clearly you state it in terms
of the customer/subscriber's needs and concerns.

By inviting a prospect to sign up to your list, you are asking him/her
to take a small risk. By reversing this risk to the maximum extent
possible, you make it a lot easier for a prospect to join - and leave
less reason to hesitate.

If you word your risk reversal ambiguously, you're going to make a few
potential subscribers wonder: "Now what am I missing here?"

Instead, if you go all-out and say something like:

"We want to be honest and convey trust. Under certain circumstances,
we may decide to sell our business. If this happens, we want to make
sure you understand your privacy and best interests will NEVER be
compromised. Any information you submit to us will remain within
this company, and will never be rented, sold, leased or otherwise
misused - NO MATTER WHAT"

You not only clear up things absolutely, you also position yourself as a trusted advisor who is always looking out for your subscribers best interests - even if in the murky future, you will hand over reins of the company to some new owner.

Hope this helps
