This is not spam. The list has filled out a survey asking 
for information and then
they are verified by phone or email that they do indeed want 
this information.

Once I receive a list I email them and invite them to 
subscribe, I like to interact
with the list to find out what they want..what are they 
looking for. I work the
list by phone, email and physically mailing some.

Yes they know their info was collected and exactly from 
where.

Not all will be interested in your offer which is why you 
find out what they
want. Offer to help them get what they want. If your only 
purpose is to "sell"
to your list then you do not want to work a list you want a 
guaranteed sale.

Let me know if you find a place where they guarantee you 
that.
