Then, quite obviously, they should unsubscribe before throwing up an 
autoresponder.  I've been in situations before where an autoresponder went 
into a feedback loop and sent thousands of messages to a mailing list in a 
12 hour period.

As an aside, I've worked in a fair number of companies, and NEVER have I 
been required to use an autoresponder.
