OK, I am forced to admit to the inconsistency in my previous opinion
that emails sent from challenge-response systems were unacceptable but
that we should be more tolerant when it comes to out-of-office messages.


I stand by the concept that challenge-response systems unfairly shift
the spam burden to other innocent people. Regarding out-of-office
messages: even though some of us find it preferable to participate via a
work address AND are required to turn on autoresponders when away from
our offices AND it would be a pain to unsub every time we do so, to NOT
do so again shifts the pain to other innocent people. 

So, I yield to logic, and I will subscribe from a different, non-company
address that does not require an autoresponder.
