Pay-to-play. 

How about an adapted version on the old 900 numbers. For $1 or whatever
you'll answer their question. Use an AR on that e-mail address that sends
the $1 proposition to them; all takers get dumped to a database. You just
answer the questions of the serious potential prospects.

In that initial AR gently explain why time is money, refer them to your
article sites, lists, FAQ, etc. Most of their questions could be answered
from those resources.

On each method, ABC, Always Be Closing. Look to convert all inquiries to a
free subscriber (minimum) a buyer (ideally).

When I was working on 1ShoppingCart.com we coded an Artificial Intelligent
AR system. It would answer your email for you using artificial intelligence
to scan the subject line and body copy.

Keywords would trigger your pre-designed answers. Ahead of its time. Back
then nobody bought. But you wish you had now...don't you?
