Ezine Promotion Concept: Optimize Your Time By Brian Alt

There are literally hundreds of ways to promote an ezine. Many of them have been detailed in the past here.
The challenge is this: With enough ezine promotional techniques to keep a person busy full-time for years, on which ones should I focus with my limited time?
There's no quick and easy answer to this question, but there are some things to keep in mind when optimizing the time you spend promoting your ezine:
Focus on Creating "Flows" - Some efforts (announcement lists, ad swaps, etc.) will create a single batch of new subscribers. Other efforts (directory and search engine registration, ongoing joint ventures, etc.) will create a steady flow of new subscribers that will continue indefinitely. For ezine publishers who plan to be around for awhile, the latter option is pretty attractive. Consider especially that the sooner you implement these "flow" efforts, the longer they will work for you.
Leverage the Efforts of Others - An individual human being will always have a limited amount of time, but you can effectively transcend these time limitations by getting others to work for you. The most obvious example of this is to pay an individual or company to outsource some of your promotional tasks. But you might also be able to leverage the efforts of others by setting up joint ventures with other publishers, recruiting affiliates to refer new subscribers or customers, or asking your subscribers to recommend your ezine to their friends or business associates.
Replicate What Works, Ignore What Doesn't - As you go about promoting your ezine, use unique URLs and other methods to track the results of your efforts. You will discover over time that many promotional techniques work well, while others are little more than a total waste of your time. Refine your efforts to focus on what creates the most reward for the smallest amount of work.
Yesterday's tip is probably the perfect example of leveraging small amounts of time to create significant results over the long term. If you missed yesterday's tip, it's available here.
