Inktomi's Paid Search/Submit Service

Today's tip covers a related service, but one that is actually a unique approach to the paid search engine listing phenomenon. Inktomi, a popular search service, has its data used by popular Internet portals such as AOL, MSN, iWon, and Looksmart. Unlike Looksmart's directory and Yahoo!'s primary database, both of which offer a paid service to guarantee that a human will review and (hopefully) list your site, Inktomi's paid service simply guarantees that its automated robot will index your Web pages in a timely fashion, and will continue to do so over time. And also unlike Looksmart and Yahoo!, both of which cost around $200, Inktomi's service is only $30 for the first URL and a lesser amount for every URL thereafter.

Before you utilize Inktomi's service, be sure to implement the following to increase the chances that your investment will create numerous new ezine subscriptions over time:

• Make sure that the pages you submit to Inktomi include properly formatted meta tags. Check out SearchEngineWatch for information on meta tags and other helpful search engine-related topics.

• Make sure to select keyword-rich pages to submit to Inktomi. Archived articles or issues of your ezine will work well for this purpose.

• Treat the pages that you submit to Inktomi as "entry pages" to your site. In other words, because these pages will often be the first pages that a new visitor sees, make sure a subscription form and prominent site navigation is available on each of these pages.
